Greetings from Ethiopia!
We have arrived at the end of the first quarter of our new school year with about one hundred students from different ethnic groups in our region. About 95% of them are evangelists, pastors and leaders of churches. They are enrolled in diploma and undergraduate level studies of Missiology. Although English is the language of studies, this year we have started the diploma level also in Amharic, the country’s official language.
The political and economic situation in the country is much better after the arrival of the new Prime Minister Abiy Ahmet, a brother in Christ, who won the Nobel peace prize this year. However, there are always enemies of peace trying to destabilize the state internally. Prayers are needed for the peace and prosperity of Ethiopia. In the country’s prosperity we find ours, to work for the expansion of the Gospel.
Last year we were approached by NLM to consider staying more two years in Ethiopia. We gladly agreed with that, but we needed the consent from the Norwegian Immigration Department to extend our stay without losing our permanent residence in Norway. We got a letter from them informing that our request to stay longer here in Ethiopia was rejected. Pray for us as we are returning to Norway at the end of November.
We will certainly miss our students and dear co-workers… However, in 2020 we will continue to be involved in the missionary work in Ethiopia, coming for short-term training projects at Tabor College and at the Southern synods’ level.
While in Norway, we will be working on curriculum development, production of training and discipleship materials, and maybe being part on the pre-field training of missionaries of NLM in the Summer. On the weekends we will be the visiting NLM fellowships to speak about Mission and what God is doing here in this nation, especially at Tabor Evangelical College.
Thank you so much for being part of our lives and ministry trough your prayers and support!
We are looking very much forward to seeing you soon.
Warm blessings, in Christ!
Gerson and Maitê Celeti
